Hands up if you fell in love with the game of hockey as a youngster because of the game’s cool goalie masks. Iconic designs worn by legendary goaltenders like Gerry Cheevers, Ken Dryden, Andy Moog, Ed Belfour, John Vanbiesbrouck and countless others have lured thousands of kids into the sport since Jacques Plante first sported headgear.

And a lot has changed since that fateful day in 1959 when Plante first introduced the hockey world to the idea of facial protection. Early, primitive designs gradually gave way to the more advanced, carbon composite masks worn by modern NHLers. Along the way, designs became more detailed and intricate, in short: masks became even cooler.

Now, Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevsky is taking things to a whole new level. Check out his incredible color and design changing mask courtesy of artist Sylvie Marsolais:

Are you kidding me!? That’s incredible! According to the artist, the color and design change due to the SubZero paint used when designing the mask. What’s next? The cheeks turn red when the goaltender lets in a softy?
