While Connor McDavid is slated to be the best candidate for Team North America’s captaincy, the Edmonton Oilers have reportedly decided on when they will appoint their own.
Head coach Todd McLellan told NHL.com that once training camp opens on September 22 nd, the team will be ready to anoint their leader:
“We’ll select a captain at some point throughout training camp.”
McLellan will wait until everybody is together and united as group before making the decision.
Evidently, McDavid’s name is at the top of the list, as was evidenced by former Oilers player Taylor Hall’s statements made to Sportsnet in April prior to his trade to the New Jersey Devils:
“(Connor) was the leader on the ice by the end of the season,” he said.
