Ouch.

A National Hockey League analyst has just given every NHL general manager a grade for his performance as of late, and his opinions have caused quite a stir among certain NHL fan bases.

As it always the case with these type of lists, the fans who are the most outraged are the fans of the general managers who have been hit with the lowest grades. Now to be fair to the fan bases involved there are many who would in fact agree with the rating provided by SiriusXM NHL Network radio host Jim "Boomer" Gordon, however the "F" grades he handed out on this list are clearly causing nearly all of the controversy. In all Boomer gave 4 different NHL clubs an F rating for the performance of their general managers, and the names of those organizations may surprise you.

Three teams received a flat out "F" from Boomer, they were the Philadelphia Flyers, the Anaheim Ducks and the Minnesota Wild. One team however received the lowest possible grade of them all, an F-, and that was perhaps unsurprisingly the Edmonton Oilers. That is to say Chuck Fletcher of the Flyers, Bob Murray of the Anaheim Ducks and Paul Fenton of the Wild all received an F, while Ken Holland of the Oilers received an F-. The loudest and most vociferous complaining however has come from the Oilers fan base, and likely for good reason.

Holland has been thrust into one of the worst situations in the entire National Hockey League and although there were many fans of the Oilers who were skeptical about his hiring, all those doubts were quickly erased. The fact that Holland was able to trade Milan Lucic in a straight up deal for veteran forward James Neal, and with a division rival no less, has earned him the love of the Oilers fan base and anyone would be hard pressed to give that trade anything other than a grade of "A" or better. However it appears that Boomer evaluated the teams over a full year, which means thay Holland's bad grade here is likely more a reflection of Peter Chiarelli than it was of Holland.

The other 3 names on this list however will not be so fortunate, with Fenton, Murray and Fletcher all in their roles for the full period being evaluated by Boomer. Fenton can probably be excused his poor grade as well as it seems the Wild are moving towards a full on rebuild at this point, although the organization has never come out and admitted as much, so that leaves us with Murray and Fletcher.

Fletcher has largely filled the needs of his team during the course of the offseason and although he has not made any truly earth-shattering moves as the Flyers general manager you would be hard pressed to argue against many of his decisions. He brought in a quality head coach in Alain Vigneault while shoring up some of the holes on his roster, but it is clear that Boomer feels it was too little from the Flyers GM. Bob Murray found himself in a difficult position as well, albeit one of his own making, and the buyout of Corey Perry will likely go down as his most significant move of the offseason. When getting rid of one of your core players is your biggest impact move, it's not hard to see why you would receive a low grade.
