And an entire fanbase exhales.

Ever since the Edmonton Oilers relieved general manager Peter Chiarelli of his duties back in January, hockey fans across the NHL have been waiting patiently for a team to scoop the former Oilers and Boston Bruins general manager back up. Not because they’re hopeful he’ll sign on with their favorite team… but for the opposite reason…

Look, there’s no denying Chiarelli’s accomplishments. He’s a Stanley Cup champion and despite a poor record in Edmonton, no one can ever take his championship away from him. But… that tenure in Edmonton. Yikes.

Fair or not, fans across the league have taken to social media to voice their displeasure whenever Chiarelli’s name has been linked to their team. Minnesota Wild fans waited on pins and needles until finally former Pittsburgh Penguins assistant GM Bill Guerin was hired earlier this week. There were also rumours that Chiarelli would join his old friend Jim Benning with the Vancouver Canucks. Benning was Chiarelli’s assistant in Boston and the pair worked together to deliver a championship, ironically by beating out the Canucks in the 2011 Stanley Cup Final.

But, Benning himself took to the media earlier this week to report any chance of a Chiarelli hiring.

Check it out:

You hear that? That was the sound of the entire Canucks fanbase finally exhaling.

Onto the next one, Pete.
