No penalty, and no discipline for Crosby after tossing rookie Martin Fehervary into boards.

Crosby skates off without so much as a slap on the wrist.

It appears as though the Pittsburgh Penguins captain will avoid any additional discipline.

A report from Samantha Pell of the Washington Post has confirmed that Penguins forward Sidney Crosby will not have to speak to the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety following a controversial incident on Sunday night. Crosby and the Penguins were taking on the Washington Capitals on Sunday, and in the later stages of the contest Crosby would let his emotions get the better of him.

The one incident that seemed to catch everyone's eye however was an incident involving Capitals rookie defenseman Martin Fehervary. After Crosby fired off a slap shot to dump the puck deep into the Capitals zone, he and Fehervary were skating parallel alongside the boards and eventually behind the Capitals net when suddenly Crosby seemed to snap.

Instead of simply continuing to skate, Crosby grabbed at the head and pants of the Capitals rookie and proceeded to spin him around before tossing him into the boards like a rag doll. Although the two men were rubbing up against each other prior to the throw, you could hardly call it a physical altercation of any kind until Crosby decided to take things to the next level.

Fehervary went awkwardly into the boards with his face seemingly getting the worst of it, but thankfully the Capitals blue liner appeared to be alright in spite of it all. As you can imagine the Capitals were none too happy about the incident at the time, and it wouldn't surprise me to learn that they may have petitioned the league about this matter, only to be rebuffed.

I don't think anyone genuinely believed that Crosby would face a suspension of any kind over the incident, but players have received fines for far less serious infractions in the past.

At the end of the day this is something of a lucky break for both Crosby and the Penguins, especially when you consider the way his season has been going so far. Crosby has missed all but 2 games so far this season and has yet to register a point, he can ill afford to lose more time off the back of bad decisions like this one.
