The Chicago Blackhawks finally picked up their first win of the 2019-20 season last night, edging out the Edmonton Oilers by a score of 3-1. The loss is the first of the season for the red hot Oilers and it took the Blackhawks until the final 30 seconds of the game to put things out of reach.

With a 2-1 lead, Blackhawks forward Brandon Saad was nearly sent in alone on an empty net, but wasn’t able to take the pass cleanly from linemate David Kampf. Saad was forced to track down the puck deep in the Oilers but by the time he managed to make a play, Oilers forward Ryan Nugent Hopkins was already in street hockey goalie mode. And then, after channeling his inner Grant Fuhr, Nugent-Hopkins made a marvellous save off Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews. Unfortunately for Nugent-Hopkins, his rebound control isn’t quite as good as Fuhr’s and so Saad manages to put the easy rebound into the net for the 3-1 lead.

A+ for effort, Nuge.
