The Edmonton Oilers placed defenseman Ryan Stanton on waivers, for the purpose of assigning him to the Bakersfield Condors (AHL), the team announced on Tuesday.

Stanton, 28, was never drafted in the NHL. He played four seasons in the WHL with the Mosse Jaw Warriors, before he signed a contract with the Chicago Blackhawks organisation in 2010. He played 120 games in the NHL with Chicago, the Vancouver Canucks and the Washington Capitals, registering 27 points. Edmonton signed him as a free agent last summer.

In 332 games played in the AHL, Stanton registered 88 points, adding five points in 23 playoff games.

If he clears waivers, he will report to the Oilers farm team, the Bakersfield Condors.
