The Carolina Hurricanes might have been able to shut out the defending champions Washington Capitals 5-0 on Monday, fans across the league aren't talking about the victory.

It's the Ovechkin-Svechnikov fight that made headlines and is most talked about today.

A fight took place between a pair of unlikely combatants during the first period of the Canes' victory. 19-year-old rookie Andrei Svechnikov was knocked out cold by 33-year-old Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin. Ovi stunned Svechnikov with some huge right hands and sent the kid crashing to the ice with a brutal knockout.

Since, head coach Rob Brind’Amour has commented on the fight and even the rookie's brother, Evgeny, who is a member of the Detroit Red Wings organization, took to social media and vowed to avenge his younger brother.

However, let's not forget about the poor victim here. As revealed by head coach Brind’Amour, Svechnikov had to undergo the concussion protocol following the bout, but that wasn't enough.

Team insider Michael Smith has made it known that Svechnikov needed to be quickly sent to the hospital last night for additional tests to get everything checked out. The coach added that he doubts his rookie will be in uniform on Wednesday night for the pivotal Game 4 of the best-of-seven series.

We can only hope for the best when it comes to Svechnikov.

The team has not revealed when he has been released from the hospital, however, he was seen with the team on Tuesday afternoon. Rest and time might be the only thing needed if he did suffer any head trauma.
