Patrice Bergeron asked about retirement following Game 7.

Bergeron is asked about his future.

The Boston Bruins have been eliminated from Stanley Cup contention after losing Game 7 to the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night, and now the most pressing question on the mind of many, many, Bruins fans is what lies ahead for Bruins captain Patrice Bergeron?

Rumors of a possible retirement at the end of this current season hounded Bergeron for what felt like the entire length of the regular season and with the season now over the question is more relevant than it has ever been. I didn't know whether or not Bergeron would be asked about his future following the conclusion of Game7, but he was. Unfortunately his answer won't provide any closure for fans of the franchise, if anything it will only leave them with more questions.

"It’s too early right now," said Bergeron when asked about his future following the loss on Saturday. "It’s too fresh."

That would appear to at least leave open the possibility that this may be his final season in the National Hockey League, but it also leaves open the possibility that he may come back for another year.

There's no telling what factors Bergeron will weigh in the coming days before he makes his decision, or when we might get a clearer picture of what comes next for the captain of the Bruins.
