If you did not already have a tremendous amount of respect for young Finnish forward Patrik Laine of the Winnipeg Jets, this story will likely change that for you rather quickly.

Although the story has not yet been widely publicized in North America and a report from Finnish website Ilta Sanomat has just revealed that while Laine was playing over in Helsinki as part of a special marketing promotion from the National Hockey League this season, the former Jets 2nd overall pick was also doing some big things in his home country. One of those big things was fulfilling the wish of a very sick little boy, one who unfortunately does not expect to have much time left in this world.

The boy's mother had reportedly reached out to a famous charity figure in Finland known as "Brother Christmas," and although I must admit my ignore when it comes to Brother Christmas it appears that he has built a reputation for helping make the wishes of sick kids become a reality. The mother informed him that her sick child was a gigantic fan of Patrik Laine and she desperately wanted tickets to go see the upcoming game in Helsinki, Finland, perhaps the only chance in her son's life to see his hero play live.

Although according to the report they initially had trouble fulfilling the request, it appears that at one point Patrik Laine's sister got involved and managed to get two tickets to the event to make the young man's wish come true. Although Laine deserves a ton of credit for his rather obvious involvement in making this happen, a big shout out goes out to his sister as well for going above and beyond the call of duty. Laine's sister is not a public figure and by all accounts she values her privacy, but she went out of her way to make this little boys dream a reality.

The boy not only got to attend the game live either but he was also on the receiving end of some nice gifts from Laine including an autographed jersey and a hat from the Jets superstar forward. In spite of his illness the mother says her son was in wonderful spirits on the day which really warms your heart.

Kudos to everyone who made this a reality.
