The Pittsburgh Penguins became back-to-back Stanley Cup champion due to dominant top-end talent and one of the National Hockey League’s top young goaltenders, but coach Mike Sullivan revealed how another element was a game-changer in their triumph.
Sullivan recently told The Boston Globe the NHL’s new iPad system played a key role in his club’s championship quest last season.
The system broadcasts real-time replays to each team’s bench, allowing them to review on-ice events more quickly.
The Pens' coach "does not believe it was a coincidence the Penguins scored on 20.5 percent of their power plays, or that Phil Kessel led all playoff performers with 11 man-up points."
The Penguins took advantage of the new technology, and became the big winners of the 2016-17 season.
