Preds' player placed on waivers!

It might be a bad sign for the kid.

Earlier this week, three RFA Predators elected to go into salary arbitration in order to find a suitable compromise and sign a new contract.

The restricted free agent status let teams make an offer to key players before the rest of the league, a huge difference compared to unrestricted free agents. Other teams can then make a better to the player, but his original team can match any hostile offer and, therefore, keep the player under contract.

However, sometimes a RFA receive an offer that he doesn't like much and it has to go into arbitration. The arbitration process can be initiated by either the team or the player, but the result is pretty much the same. An arbiter will hear both sides and settle the matter neutraly.

We learned that following the beginning of the arbitration process, the Predators put Marek Mazanec on the waivers.

At this point, any team can claim Mazanec. If no team claim him, he will be moved to the minors and his regular arbitration process will be held. His last contract was a one year, 575,000$ deal and he played 4 games in Nashville. It didn't go so well, with a GAA of 4.73 and a save percentage of .839. Arguably his stats were better in the AHL, but the 25 years old still has a lot to prove to cut a place in the regular lineup.
