President Trump roasts and insults Blues in White House visit

Probably not the experience the champions were hoping for...

It was an important day for the St. Louis Blues, who got their special visit to the White House after their first championship in franchise’s history last June.

On Friday, it was revealed that the team made the unanimous decision to visit President Donald Trump and the White House on Tuesday to commemorate their championship.

But as you expect, President Trump was not going to be out-staged by the champions, who brought inspirational fan Laila Anderson with them on the special day.

In his presentation speech, President Trump took a few shots at the Blues, making sure to let everyone know that he had no faith in them during the 2018-19 season. He even got NHL commissioner Gary Bettman involved.

“They started off so bad that even the Commissioner was telling me, it wasn’t looking too good for these guys.”

He also went on to tease rookie goalie Jordan Binnington about his performance in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup final against the Boston Bruins.

“Why didn’t you stop the other one?”

Binnington: “It’s my bad, I guess.”

The American president also staged an auction for the prestigious trophy, which he appeared to buy in the process. Even reporter Stephen Whyno was confused about that part...

He unfortunately couldn't focus on the job, which was celebrating the Blues: Trump went off track and talked about Turkey, the stock market and selling agricultural products to China. He also rambled about the Impeachment, which was awkward for the players... Quite insulting for the champions!

Trump canceled the 2018 Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles’ visit to the White House after some players said they would skip the ceremony to protest the president and his rhetoric, and the Golden State Warriors did not visit the White House after their 2017 or 2018 NBA titles.

For last year’s champions, the Washington Capitals, they  didn’t visit the White House until last March and when they visited with President Trump in the Oval Office, it was a low-key ceremony. Several players chose to stay away, with goalie Braden Holtby declining the invitation due to his values.

We wonder if some Blues would have preferred to skip the event today…

At least, Trump ended with this tweet:
