Report: Big update on Foligno following injury on Sunday night.

The Minnesota Wild had a big scare on Sunday night when veteran forward Marcus Foligno went down in obvious agony after he took a hard shot off the side of his knee.

Foligno and the Wild were facing off against bitter rivals the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday night in a game that has consistently become very important for both of these franchises. Even when the Wild or the Blackhawks have been under performing there has been a constant high level of competition and animosity between these two franchises, perhaps stemming from the division rivalry the Minnesota Vikings and the Chicago Bears share in the National Football League.

Sunday night was no different and in spite of their recent struggles the Chicago Blackhawks came to play and gave the Wild all that they could handle and them some. In spite of what was a very strong performance from Wild backup goaltender Alex Stalock, he stopped 25 of the 27 shots he faced on the evening, the Wild eventually fell by a score of 3 - 1 on the evening.

The big story however was the fact that Foligno was forced out of the game after he took a hard shot on the inside of his knee courtesy of Blackhawks defenseman Brent Seabrook. Foligno sacrificed his body by extending his leg sideways in an effort to block the shot, and although he was successful he paid a much higher price than he would have liked. Foligno was in serious pain on the ice and after writhing back and forth on the playing surface for several minutes he eventually had to be escorted off of the ice. Foligno seemed to be unable to put any weight on his injured leg and had to be physically carried back to the locker room by his teammates and the Minnesota Wild training staff, leading to some rather serious concerns from Wild fans.

The good news is that according to Foligno's comments after the game it seems that all of the test have come back negative, although he did suggest that he was going to have to ice his leg following the incident. He may still miss time as a result of this injury but the initial signs indicate that this is not likely to be serious.
