Hockey Players Die After a Heavy Collision on the Ice

It’s another sad story that strikes the hockey world. It feels like 2017 is a tough year for hockey players as we reported the passing of a promising Swedish goaltender. Markus Olsson was listed on McKeen’s 2017 NHL prospect list as a promising goaltender.

This time, the sad story happened in Wake Forest, South Carolina. As reported by The News&ObserverMichael Twiss, 56, was playing hockey with his sons at the Polar Ice House in a recreational league when he received a heavy hit and felt head first into the boards.

Twiss was taken to WakeMed where he was pronounced dead.

“Michael was a beloved husband and father and, for those of us who played with him, a hell of a teammate,” the page reads. “While most of us know him because of hockey, his influence stretches beyond just that community. He was always outspoken and fiercely competitive and most of us will choose to remember him as a fighter, a leader and a friend.”

In loving memory of Michael Twiss, we would like to offer all our thoughts and prayers to his friends and family. May his soul rest in peace.
