For many fans in Toronto who were hoping and praying that their Maple Leafs would acquire Tampa Bay Lightning captainSteven Stamkos this summer, those hopes quickly shifted to New York Islanders' captain John Tavares once it was announced Stamkos has re-signed with Tampa Bay.
That hope may be for naught however, and comments made by Tavares this week would seem to indicate that he has little interest in not only a possible future as a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs, but any future that would place him anywhere other than in an Islanders' uniform.
"Some of the greatest players in the game, they've been able to spend their entire careers somewhere. I hope I'm in that same situation"
Of course until he signs his contract anything could happen but Tavares has always said the right things, and after seeing the Stamkos frenzy this summer, general manager Garth Snow is unlikely to wait long to get his superstar forward secured long term.
