There have been a large number of professional tryout offers extended to veteran players this summer and this latest signing would seem to be a further indicator that a large number of these offers are being made, perhaps as a result of the World Cup.

According to a report from the NHL Network on Siruis/XM radio this morning, veteran defenseman Adam Pardy, most recently of the Edmonton Oilers, has received a professional tryout offer from the Florida Panthers organization.

Pardy has appears in just 68 total games over the course of the last two seasons, and at 32 years old there are some reasonable question to be asked about how much he can contribute at the NHL level at this stage of his career. This is of course the purpose of a PTO, and it's quite possible that Florida opts not to sign him following his tryout.

With that said, the Panthers did make some moves on defense this summer, and they may simply be scouting for some depth options should they face injuries during the course of the season.
