Things are finally getting underway officially in Las Vegas now that the National Hockey League Board of Governors has awarded them with an expansion franchise, and it sounds like we can expect the first major announcement from the organization in just a few short days.

Las Vegas owner Bill Foley recently informed Steve Carp of the Review Journal that the general manager's job in Las Vegas is down to just two candidates, with an announcement coming soon.

“We’re hoping to have an announcement in a few days,” Foley said Monday. “We’ve got two primary candidates and we’re trying to get this done. We need to get a scouting staff hired and whoever we hire as our GM will be responsible for putting the (scouting) staff together.”

Foley would not hint at the names who are on his short list, however we can safely rule out two of the rumored candidates. According to Karp both Florida Panthers president Dale Tallon as well as Chicago Blackhawks' assistant general manager Norm Maciver have been ruled out of the running for the job.

More to come.
