The Toronto Marlies have made a curious move and it has left a lot of observers scratching their head.

After allowing just one goal in the very first period on Friday night goaltender Garret Sparks was pulled out of the game although he did not appear to have suffered any kind of injury on the play.

The Marlies have subsequently announced that Sparks will not be returning to the game this evening, although they have not provided any information on why he has left the game.

An injury seems like the most likely explanation although to be perfectly honest it could be any number of things and at this time no one has been abler to ascertain anything.

With a solid performance in the American Hockey League this season Sparks has been mentioned as a potential trade targets for teams in need of goaltending and there are no shortage of those. The Pittsburgh Penguins, Edmonton Oillers and Florida Panthers have all lost their starting goaltenders to injury, so a curious absence like this has led to a lot of speculation on that front as well.
