You know it : Matt Duchene has been on the trade block for months and he remains one of the biggest storylines around the NHL as training camps near.

You know it: the 26-year-old forward has been linked to the Columbus Blue Jackets on several occasions, and even the Carolina Huccianes, as Colorado Avalanche general manager Joe Sakic's demands remain steep.

But NHL Insider and Sportsnet's analyst Elliotte Friedman has revealed new information on Friday, on when Duchene might actually be traded. On the air of Calgary Sportsnet 960, Friedman revealed that the forward could be moved in the coming week.

“The one thing I always believe – there’s a guy I follow on Twitter, his name is Andrew Brant. He used to work in the NFL. He was an agent. He was a Green Bay Packers executive. He has a saying that deadlines spur action. I don’t think that the opening of training camp is a deadline per se, but I think what it does do is it creates an energy for people to try to get something done. I think in the next week you will see some real efforts to try to get it done.”

Friedman added that the Jackets "have been pretty aggressive" concerning Duchene, who is getting frustrated with the ongoing impasse. He may not show up to training camp in Denver to put some pressure on management.

"I get Matt Duchene’s frustration. I get Pat Brisson’s frustration. But if you’re Colorado, you’re coming off a last-place season, you’re trying to rebuild, you’ve had one asset that you’ve traded and it hasn’t worked out – you have to give yourself the best chance to make sure that this deal works," Friedman added.

“From outside, I get why people are frustrated at them. But if I was in Joe Sakic’s shoes, this is what I would have to do. And that’s the truth. Because if they don’t get a good return on this or it doesn’t work out, it’s a real damaging blow for the franchise.”

Duchene and fans might only have to wait one more week...
