According to a report from The National Post’s Michael Traikos, 40-year-old NHL veteran Jarome Iginla has at least one NHL offer on the table, but is holding out for more interest from an Stanley Cup contender. Traikos spoke to Iginla’s agent, Don Meehan, who admitted that his client has received interest, even offers, but that he’s being “selective” with his choice. Hey… he’s a future Hall of Famer, so he’s earned the right.

“I think after his lengthy career he can afford to be very selective,” said Meehan. “It’s having the independence to choose where you want to be and look for a perfect situation for yourself.”

So, where is that perfect situation? Could a return to the Calgary Flames be in the works? The team could use some help on the right side and Iginla would instantly be a fan favorite in Cow Town once again. What about their rivals just up the highway? The Edmonton Oilers look like they could use some of Iggy’s veteran stewardship. Rumors have also connected Iginla to the Pittsburgh Penguins, as well. Could they be the team in pursuit of the veteran?

While we don’t know for sure just who is after Iginla, we know the offer wasn’t merely a tryout contract. Meehan has made it clear that his client isn’t interested in such an arrangement. “He doesn’t have to do that at this stage of his career,” said Meehan.

Regardless, it’s comforting to know that there’s still a spot in the NHL for a 40-year-old Iginla. Whether he ultimately decides to take the offer or not though remains to be seen.
