Veteran forward Rick Nash is completing the last year of his contract with the New York Rangers, who unfortunately for him, don't seem to have a  sense of urgency to re-sign him, with was confirmed by NHL insider Bob McKenzie.

“No, none whatsoever,” McKenzie noted bluntly on NBCSN pregame show on Wednesday. “Now, I should point out that Rick Nash made it clear to the New York Rangers in the offseason and continues to feel this way that he wants to return to the New York Rangers. He wants to re-sign in New York. He likes it there and would like to continue to be a member  of the team."

By the time next season rolls around, Nash will be 34 years old and needs to expect a lower salary than his $7.8 million average deal. However, he could use Toronto Maple Leafs' Patrick Marleau as a comparable.

‘Well, Patrick Marleau got three years at $6.25 million and he’s 38 years old," explained McKenzie. "And the Rangers might argue, ‘Yeah, well Eric Staal is 33 years old – same age as you roughly – and he only got a three-year deal at $3.5 million.’

"If things aren’t going well for the New York Rangers, then Rick Nash is likely to be traded as a rental sometime between now and the trade deadline."

The Rangers are off to a rough start this season, and Nash has only one goal in seven games. His current contract holds a modified no-trade clause, no-move clause. Nash can submit a 12-team trade list that he might need to use if the Rangers aren't interesting in extending him.
