The New Jersey Devils have just made a very smart move.
The Devils officially announced on Tuesday that they had agreed to terms on a one year, two way, deal with bruising winger Luke Gazdic that will play him $700,000 at the National Hockey League level.
The move makes a ton of sense for the Devils who just acquired highly talented forward Taylor Hall in a trade from the Oilers. Not only is Gazdic exactly the kind of player you want around to protect someone like Hall, but the two were also roommates in Edmonton, meaning their new star forward will have some level of familiarity despite moving to a new market.
Furthermore gritty forward Jordin Tootoo did not re-sign with Jersey, instead signing a new deal with a new organization today, leaving room on the Devils' roster for a player like Gazdic.
