Sportsnet analyst and NHL insider Nick Kypreos made headlines this weekend when he commented on the play of Edmonton Oilers winger Ryan Strome and suggested that he may end up on the trade block in Edmonton. Now, after a couple days of cooling off, TSN’s Bob McKenzie, perhaps the most well-respected insider in all of hockey, addressed the rumors on Edmonton’s TSN 1260.

In response to all the Strome trade talk, McKenzie was blunt in his assessment.

“I haven’t heard anything along those lines,” he said. “But in what universe does anybody think that a guy who on his best day is a 50-point player in the National Hockey League – who’s never scored more than 20 goals in the NHL and who has never scored more than 50 points or thereabouts, but has had years where he’s scored less – and he comes in and he’s got three points… So someone comes in and says, ‘Yeah, we may want to trade Ryan Strome.’ Oh good. Who do you think wants Ryan Strome right now? Seriously.”

Wow… tell us how you REALLY feel, Bobby Mac. He makes a good point though, with Strome underproducing and with the trade rumors out there, what’s he really worth at this point? Oilers GM Pete Chiarelli would be wise and wait for Strome production and his trade value to rise before making any hasty decisions.
