Report: Two new Red Wings on the trade block?

And suddenly things get a LOT more interesting.

It’s a busy time of the year for Detroit Red Wings general manager Ken Holland.

Earlier this week it was reported that forward Gustav Nyquist has agreed to waive his no-trade clause so that the team can recoup some assets for him before he hits the open market as an unrestricted free agent.

Then just yesterday it was reported that the team has been shopping 28 year old defenseman Nick Jensen on the trade market. The blueliner makes just $812,500 against the salary cap and is also slated to become a free agent this upcoming offseason. According to a report from NHL insider Brian Lawton of the NHL Network, there is interest around the league for Jensen and the Wings have let clubs know that he can be had… for a price.

Check it out:

A 2nd round pick for a 15 point Dman? Hmmm…. seems like a steep price. Then again, look at the impact that Michal Kempny had with the Washington Capitals last season after being acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for a 3rd round pick. So… maybe a 2nd for Jensen isn’t out of the realm of possibility? Again… it doesn’t hurt to ask.

Now today NHL insider Elliotte Friedman mentions a couple other Red Wings who could be in play between now and Monday’s trade deadline: Luke Glendenning and Darren Helm.

“I just wonder about Darren Helm,” said Friedman. “Centers are always valuable. Helm and Glendenning centers.”

Now, Glendenning’s name has been bounced around in trade rumors for awhile now, but this is the first mention of Helm from anyone with real credibility. The 32 year old pivot is signed for two more seasons at $3.85 million per season, meaning that whoever picks him up is doing so for the long haul, not as a rental. Too rich?
