The recently acquired Tyson Barrie has yet to even play a game for the Toronto Maple Leafs and already fans and analysts have him leaving Toronto over a contract squabble. Such is life in the middle of the biggest hockey in the universe though…

According to a report from The Toronto Sun’s Steve Simmons, the 27 year old Barrie is believed to be seeking an eight year deal worth as much, or more than $8 million per season when his current deal expires next summer.

Ouch. That’s… probably not do-able from a Leafs perspective…

Barrie, who was acquired along with forward Alex Kerfoot in exchange for Nazem Kadri and Calle Rosen, scored 14 goals and 59 points with the Colorado Avalanche last season. His four year, $22 million contract that comes with a $5.5 million annual cap hit expires June 30th, 2020.
