It sounds like the Toronto Maple Leafs have their eyes set on coach that they would like to add to their current staff but there is just one problem, he is currently under contract with another organization in the National Hockey League.

According to a report from Sportsnet's National Hockey League insider John Shannon his sources have informed him that the Maple Leafs have their eyes on head coach Rocky Thompson. Thompson is of course the current head coach of the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League and as a result he is currently under the umbrella of the Las Vegas Golden Knights organization.

It is worth noting here that the Golden Knights have previously indicated that they would not allow Thompson to talk to other teams regarding a position as an assistant, however this is the Toronto Maple Leafs we are talking about. That organization has the capital to give even an assistant coach a significant bump in salary from an AHL head coaching job and if there is mutual interest from Thompson I believe the Golden Knights could possibly be more open to a move of this nature with Toronto than they would be with other organizations.

Shannon has not indicated whether or not he believes the Golden Knights will allow the move to happen, simply stating to see that it will be "interesting" to see how this situation plays out.
