Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas unofficially kicked off the NHL’s trade season late last month, but with the trade deadline now just four days away, don’t be surprised if Dubas has another trick up his sleeve.

On the latest 31 Thoughts podcast for Sportsnet, co-host Elliotte Friedman reports that he believes the Leafs are still looking for a right-shooting defenseman to pick up on the trade market and the person that they reportedly have in their sights might surprise you… former Leafs blueliner Roman Polak, now of the Dallas Stars.

Check it out:

“Someone told me that Toronto looked at Polak to bring him back...”

Interesting… Polak was certainly a favorite of Leafs head coach Mike Babcock, so it’s not a stretch to think that he could be on the team’s radar.

The Leafs have also been linked to the Carolina Hurricanes, New York Rangers, Anaheim Ducks and Minnesota Wild in trade rumblings, so don’t be surprised if Dubas and the Leafs are active between now and Monday afternoon.
