Rumor: Trade talk picks up, Bruins in the mix for star forward

Has B’s GM Don Sweeney been lying in the weeds this whole time?

With the NHL rumor mill spinning out of control after Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported about a potential three-way deal between the Ottawa Senators, Nashville Predators and Colorado Avalanche. Details of exactly all the players involved and exactly why it went south are sketchy, but we do know that Ottawa Senators forward Kyle Turris was one of the players involved.

This has led to speculation from one of the NHL’s foremost trade insiders, that if indeed Turris is on the move, don’t be surprised if he winds up as a member of the Boston Bruins. According to Spector Hockey’s Lyle Richardson:

I’ll be very surprised if the Bruins are able to land Turris via trade this season. If they’re interested in him, they’ll likely wait to pursue him via next summer’s free-agent market.

This certainly seems like a fit, at least on paper. Turris has the skill and adaptability to play 1st or 2nd line minutes, not unlike current B’s pivot Patrice Bergeron. The two of them together could give the Bruins a true dynamic duo, which obviously was the team’s plan when they signed David Krejci to a long-term deal in 2014. But, with Krejci’s health a constant question mark, could the B’s move him in favor of Turris? Like Richardson says, it may not happen this season, but if Turris hits the open market this summer look for Sweeney to make a big push for the 28-year-old center.
