Rumor Update: Jagr talks progressing, signing imminent?
The 45-year-old living legend may be back in the NHL after all…

When the calendar rolled over to the month of August and the second month of the NHL’s free-agency period, most hockey fans were surprised to learn that future Hall of Famer Jaromir Jagr was still without a contract for the 2017-18 season. Well, don’t look now but we’re just a day away from September and the 45-year-old forward remains unsigned. But, for how much longer?
Jagr has been rumored to be in negotiations with the Calgary Flames for weeks now and a report earlier this week indicated that the team was willing to bring the veteran in on a short-term deal. The hang up? The Flames still need to hammer out a deal with restricted free-agent Sam Bennett before they can put pen to paper on a Jagr agreement. Now an unsubstantiated report from NHL scout/reporter Joshua Marshall indicates that talks are progressing between the Flames and both parties and that fans should expect some big announcements soon.
Check it out:
Something should give? Does this mean that the Flames are likely to sign both players? Bennett seems like a no-brainer, but Jagr’s future is still very much in doubt. What’s he worth on a short-term deal? Where does he fit into the team’s lineup?
In any case, we’ll continue to follow this story until Jagr finally signs a new deal. We simply can’t imagine the NHL without him…
