Schenn and Kadri drop the gloves, payback for the hit on Faulk.
Kadri has to answer for his hit in the playoffs.
In what may go down as the least surprising tilt of the season, Colorado Avalanche forward Nazem Kadri has dropped the gloves against the St. Louis Blues.
Kadri and the Avalanche faced off against the Blues on Saturday night and one of the main storylines coming into this one was payback. Although the Blues and the Avalanche had faced each other in the Stanley Cup Playoffs earlier this year, this was the first meeting featuring Kadri in the lineup since that showdown. This was relevant because Kadri was infamously tossed out of that series when he received a hefty suspension for a hit he delivered to the head of Blues defenseman Justin Faulk.
For those of you who didn't see the hit or who simply don't remember it, here's a reminder of what this feud is all about:
There was no question following a hit of that nature that a hard nosed team like the Blues was going to seek revenge, and the second Kadri hit the ice on Saturday night they did exactly that. Kadri hopped over the Avalanche bench and it was a matter of a few blinks of the eye before Blues forward Brayden Schenn was up in Kadri's face and challenging him to drop the gloves.
To Kadri's credit he did answer the challenge from Schenn and quickly dropped his gloves to engage the Blues veteran. Kadri did also try to throw a few punches in there for good measure as well, but it was clear from the outset that Schenn was the stronger of the two and the more experienced at this aspect of the game as well. Schenn largely dominated the exchange and that was made all the more evident when Kadri turtled up to indicate that he had taken enough punishment.
Here's the replay of the exchange between Kadri and Schenn:
I do think that from the Blues perspective you must feel like Kadri got off a little easy on this one, especially considering the hit that was delivered to Faulk in the playoffs. I wonder if this will be the end of this feud between Kadri and the Blues or if we can expect more fireworks in the future.
