The Ottawa Senators may be in a rebuilding stage, however, general manager Pierre Dorion still expects them to win games and play better. Dorian told reporters during a press conference Friday that he shared that sentiment with the players earlier in the day. He met with media following the firing of head coach Guy Boucher.

"I told them that our play recently wasn't acceptable," Dorion said, according to TSN's Frank Seravalli.

"No more excuses," Dorion added.

Is he serious?

The Senators lost 4-2 to the Oilers Thursday night for a sixth consecutive loss and announced the decision to fire Boucher less than 24 hours later.  the head coach had the Senators one win away from advancing to the Stanley Cup Final back in 2017, however the Sens haven't been a contender since.

But let's note first that only Jean-Gabriel Pageau, Zack Smith, Bobby Ryan, Cody Ceci, and Craig Anderson are the only players remaining from the team that was one win away from the 2017 Stanley Cup Final. Dorion is the one that decided to trade away the team's three leading goal scorers - Matt Duchene, Mark Stone, and Ryan Dzingel prior to the deadline on Monday.

On top of that, following the major trades on Monday, Dorion held a press conference, in which he told fans and reporters he would support Boucher in his tough role this season.

“Guy is our coach. I don’t think anyone will disagree with me on this one that I’ve probably made his job pretty difficult the last few weeks, and we’re going to support him.”

Clearly, that was another lie to the faces of the fans still paying money to come and encourage their favourite team.

Marc Crawford has been named interim head coach for the remainder of the season. Former Senators’ centre Chris Kelly will also join Crawford’s staff on interim basis. The Senators currently sit last in the NHL with a 22-57-5 record.

In the team release, the Senators said they would be looking for a new head coach who excels in the following:

-A teacher who will focus on the development and growth of each player on the team;
-A listener who encourages feedback from players and the coaching staff;
-A communicator who lets every team member know where they stand and what is expected;
-A tactician who brings structure and game planning that will enhance our rebuild.

We are pretty the Senators fanbase is hoping that Ottawa will get a new GM that excels in being honest!
