Shocking approach suggested for Jack Campbell’s struggles in Edmonton!

Would the Oilers dare do that??

The Edmonton Oilers might face a tough schedule, goalie Jack Campbell couldn’t use that excuse in last night’s loss to the Minnesota Wild.

This was only his third game in 21 days, but he failed to impress the fanbase, or even his own teammates. Since signing that five-year, $25-million deal this summer, Campbell has offered the Oilers terrible numbers in between the pipes: a 4.12 goals-against average and a save percentage of .872. Backup (can we really say this now) Stuart Skinner has started more games than Campbell, but isn’t getting his starter’s salary…

There was supposed to be a reset for Campbell when he was off during 12 days, however since he got back, he’s posted terrible save percentages in his three games: .903, .870 and .833 against the Wild on Thursday.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman started off by saying that perhaps the Oilers should consider keeping Campbell away from media for a while, seeing that he beats himself up and it looks to affect his confidence.

But then, the insider and host Jeff Marek wondered some more and the idea of placing Campbell on waivers was even discussed, comparing his situation to Cal Petersen’s in Los Angeles when the Kings placed him on the wire earlier this week.

Campbell needs a wake-up call and you have to wonder if the Oilers will have to send him this message with a waivers move.

Across the NHL, Campbell ranks 52nd in save percentage among the 54 goalies who have played eight games or more.
If the Oilers pull the stunning approach and place him on waivers to get him out of his funk, I doubt anyone would claim him and his cap hit of $5 million.

What will the Oilers do to shake Campbell out of his pads and back in the game?
