Team USA made a big announcement today confirmed that Buffalo Sabres star forward Jack Eichel would be joining their roster for the upcoming World Championship but not to be outdone Team Canada made a huge announcement of their own.

Team Canada announced the first 18 players that would comprise their roster, and no surprise is features a host of talent from teams in the National Hockey League that failed to make the playoffs this season.

Here are the players who were announced:

Two goaltenders were named they are Eric Comrie (Edmonton/Winnipeg, NHL) and Calvin Pickard (Winnipeg/Colorado, NHL)

Joining them will be defensemen Tyson Barrie (Victoria, B.C./Colorado, NHL), Calvin de Haan (Carp, Ont./New York Islanders, NHL), Jason Demers (Dorval, Que./Florida, NHL), Michael Matheson (Pointe-Claire, Que./Florida, NHL), and Josh Morrissey (Calgary/Winnipeg, NHL);

And last but not least the forwards announced this far are Sean Couturier (Bathurst, N.B./Philadelphia, NHL), Matt Duchene (Haliburton, Ont./Colorado, NHL), Claude Giroux (Hearst, Ont./Philadelphia, NHL), Alex Killorn (Beaconsfield, Que./Tampa Bay, NHL), Travis Konecny (Clachan, Ont./Philadelphia, NHL), Ryan O’Reilly (Varna, Ont./Buffalo, NHL), Nathan MacKinnon (Cole Harbour, N.S./Colorado, NHL), Brayden Point (Calgary/Tampa Bay, NHL), Mark Scheifele (Kitchener, Ont./Winnipeg, NHL), Wayne Simmonds (Scarborough, Ont./Philadelphia, NHL), and Jeff Skinner (Toronto/Carolina, NHL).
