We have been waiting a long time to learn where free agent defenseman Kris Russell would land and it sounds like we may finally be getting close to the answer.

In a recent appearance on the NHL Network Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman revealed that he believes Russel is very close to a new deal, and furthermore revealed that a new team had possibly entered the mix.

“Kris Russell, I hear, has got some interest out there and that he’s probably getting close to make a decision in the next few days," said Friedman as per Nichols on Hockey. "He’s a Western guy. I think in a perfect world he would stay out West, but right now he’s kind of got to wait. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if maybe he wants to go back to Calgary. Calgary has got a really crowded blueline. Unless they can do something there with one of their existing contracts, I’m not sure there’s room. But I think you’ll hear Russell signing probably within the next few days.”

Friedman however did not touch on any of the other team's that could still be involved, and there have been a ton of rumors of the free agency period that have included just to name a few the Maple Leafs, Bruins, Canucks, Wings and more.
