Top prospect demoted again as he struggles to find his place on the team.

This is certainly not a good look.

It's been a lot of frustration for both forward Jake Virtanen as well as his team the Vancouver Canucks and it looks like it's far from over.

According to an official report from the Canucks, the team has once again made the decision to demote the former first round draft pick in the 2014 National Hockey League Entry Draft to the minors.

From the official press release:

Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning announced today that the club has re-assigned forward Jake Virtanen to the AHL Utica Comets.

Virtanen, 20, has appeared in 10 games with the Canucks this season registering an assist (0-1-1) along with two penalty minutes.

Head coach Willie Desjardins has expressed difficulty in getting Virtanen to buy into the Canucks system, and this seems a likely result of just that. This move is likely designed to both give him new experience as well as an effort to send a message to the young man that he needs to learn to play the system if he wants to be an NHL player.

There's simply no sugarcoating the fact that this is a big disappointment for both sides.
