Toronto's Nick Robertson suffers an ugly looking injury on Sunday night.

That's not meant to bend like that.

Maple Leafs prospect Nick Robertson has suffered an injury and although we are still awaiting word on how serious the injury might be, it certainly doesn't look good.

Robertson was playing on Sunday night with the Maple Leafs American Hockey League affiliate, the Toronto Marlies, when a battle for the puck along the boards ended horribly for the 20 year old forward. Robertson lost a physical battle along the boards and was muscled down to the ice, but it was the way that he fell that led to the injury.

Robertson fell backwards in an awkward fashion and as he fell his leg bent underneath the weight of his body at a gruesome looking angle. It was Robertson's right leg that took the full brunt of his weight as he crashed down to the ice, with Robertson unable to even get so much as his arms out to help soften the blow. The speed and force with which he fell made it look all that much worse, and you just have to hope that this isn't going to be some type of major injury to his knee, or something of that nature.

Here's the replay:

And a second angle that shows a closer look at the injured leg:

When asked to provide an update on Robertson's injury, Marlies head coach Greg Moore was unable to give more information and would only say that the team will know more at some point on Monday.

It is a tough break for Robertson who also suffered an injury early on last season, although in this case it looks like things could be much more serious. He was producing well for the Marlies in his limited number of games thus far in the season, recording 2 points over his first 2 games played and it is unfortunate that this could derail that strong start.

It is impossible to predict how long Robertson might be out for, but as I stated earlier the replay makes things look about as bad as can be.
