The Dallas Starshave already pulled off one trade today and it sounds like they are working at hard at trying to get another deal done.

In a recent report for The Athletic Dallas Stars insider Sean Shapiro revealed that the Stars have been actively shopping veteran forward Brett Ritchie in an effort to ship him out of town and hopefully change the pervasive culture of mediocrity in their locker room. Shapiro is not only an impeccable reporter when it comes to the Dallas Stars but additionally he claims that this information has now been corroborated by multiple sources.

From Shapiro:

According to two NHL sources, the Stars have looked into trading Brett Ritchie.

As recently as two weeks ago, the Stars put out feelers to other teams to gauge what type of interest there would be in the winger, who has been a frequent healthy scratch and only has four points in 24 games.

Ritchie has struggled since his breakout season during the 2016 - 2017 National Hockey League regular season, a year that saw him appear in 78 games fir the Stars while recording 16 goals and 8 assists for a total of 24 points. Since that 16 goal season Ritchie's highest goal total on a season has been 7, a drastic drop off and one that a player of his caliber can ill afford. It is for this reason that I imagine Ritchie remains on the Stars roster in spite of the fact that the "feelers" have reportedly been out there for weeks already according to Shapiro.

The other issue for Ritchie is of course his current contract. Although he is currently earning a fairly modest $1.75 million this season on the final year of a 2 year deal, the level of production he has been delivering this season doesn't even justify that relatively low cap hit. I suppose what does make him somewhat of a more valuable asset is the fact that he will be a restricted free agent at the end of the season which means that the team picking him up will have the option of re-signing him to a lower number should they feel the need to moving beyond this current season.

If the Stars are unable to find a trade partner expect him to hit waivers, although that may be some time in coming because Shapiro believes that the Stars expect he would be claimed in such a scenario.
