Tyler Bertuzzi wants to end the season on a high note.

The 24-year-old Detroit Red Wings forward notched two goals and an assist in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins, extending his run of three-point games to four.

And that's a record for the franchise, and an impressive one.

Bertuzzi became the first player in Red Wings history to tally three-or-more points in four straight games in last night's win, preventing the Pens from clinching a playoff position.

“It’s something special,” Bertuzzi said. “I can’t thank my teammates enough.”

Red Wings teammates Dylan Larkin had three assists and Anthony Mantha scored twice. It was a brilliant way to celebrate the official announcement that head coach Jeff Blashill was re-signed to a two-year contract extension earlier during the day. The head coach was however blown away by Bertuzzi.

“It blew me away, I couldn’t believe it to be honest,” Blashill said to reporters following the win. “You think of the players in this franchise and the winning that has been done here, the number of goals that have been scored. Different eras have had higher-scoring games. For that to be the first time in history, I absolutely couldn’t believe it. What a good run by him.
“I’ve said this consistently all year: Bert has done a very good job and he’s really grown. The consistency to me is the difference.”

While the Red Wings will not take part in the postseason for the third consecutive year, it is very encouraging to see young players like Bertuzzi accomplishing great things like this record!

The future is ours, Wings nation!
