These are the kind of unfortunate accidents that just can't really be avoided and unfortunately they can at times lead to serious injuries.

Montreal Canadiens defenseman Nathan Beaulieu was very unlucky on Tuesday night when his attempt to stop a shot with his stick resulted in a puck violently slamming into his face. The result was a very wobbly Beaulieu on the ice who honestly appeared lost for a few moments before slowing making his way back to the Habs bench.

We now know that Beaulieu was taken to hospital as a result of the injury, and now a report from Sportsnet's Eric Engels has revealed that Beaulieu was released from that hospital earlier this morning. Unfortunately the prognosis on his injury still appears to be very serious with Engels reporting that the Habs have listed him as "out indefinitely" as they await the results of further tests.

We're wishing Beaulieu a successful and speedy recovery, here's a look at how it all happened.
