Update on Leon Draisaitl and his injury ahead of Game 7.
Troubling update on Draisaitl.
The Edmonton Oilers may have star forward Leon Draisaitl in the lineup this evening, but it sounds like if that is indeed the case he will be at far less than 100%.
Draisaitl of course has been battling through a lower body injury in the Oilers' opening round Stanley Cup playoff series against the Los Angeles Kings and there were questions about whether or not he would be capable of suiting up for Game 7. The latest on that front comes to us courtesy of National Hockey League insider Frank Seravalli who on Saturday indicated that he believes Draisaitl will indeed play in Game 7.
"Current expectation is Leon Draisaitl will be in [the Oilers] lineup tonight for Game 7," wrote Seravalli on Saturday.
It sounds like this is a decision that could change at a moment's notice however, with Seravalli reporting that Draisaitl intends to test the injury in warm ups prior to Game 7 before making a final decision on whether or not he will play.
Perhaps what is most concerning of all though is Seravalli's insight on the nature of Draisaitl's injury, one that seems unlikely to heal during a grueling tournament like the Stanley Cup playoffs. The insider has revealed that, according to his sources, Draisaitl is currently dealing with what is believed to be a high ankle sprain. A high ankle sprain can take as long as 2 months to properly heal, and that is with rest and proper rehab, not while playing in one of the most important games of your NHL career.
