With the playoffs fast approaching, the status of injured players is a constant matter of attention. You don't want your stars to get injured and you hope for the best with those who already are.

Today, we learned the Jets will have to make do without Shawn Matthias. The big guy (6'4'', 223lbs) needs to have surgery on his shoulder quickly to repair a labral tear. This kind of surgery takes months to heal and he'll probably be ready to play again only next season.

Granted Matthias is not the centerpiece of the Jets offensive squad, but it's always a headache to replace your regular players at any point in time. Winnipeg is pretty much guaranteed to be out of the Spring dance, so Matthias will leave some space for promising rookies looking to get a first taste of the big show.
