Waiver pickup Luca Sbisa injures Patrik Laine in first practice with his new team

Ouch… talk about a bad first impression.

According to a report from Winnipeg Jets insider Brian Munz of TSN, Jets sniper Patrik Laine was forced to leave his team’s practice today after colliding with defenseman Luca Sbisa.

The same Sbisa who the Jets JUST picked up on waivers? The one and only.

Check it out:

Suffice it to say, that’s not a very good first impression for the new guy. Laine is reportedly a game-time decision for tomorrow night’s game against the Anaheim Ducks.

Speaking of those Ducks… Sbisa was signed to a one year contract by the Ducks last week before being scooped up off of waivers by the Jets. Could… could Luca Sbisa actually be a double-agent working for the Ducks!?!?!

Nah… but… it’d be a HELL of a story.

In any case, Laine is off to a red hot start this season with three goals and 13 points in 12 games. Suffice it to say, losing him for any sustained length of time would be a HUGE blow to a Jets team that has surprisingly struggled to find its offensive game so far this season.

Laine is in the middle of a seven-game goal drought, despite racking up 19 shots over the stretch however. If Laine is deemed unable to play against the Ducks tomorrow, Jack Roslovic will likely slot into Laine's spot on the second line alongside center Bryan Little and winger Kyle Connor.

As for Sbisa... well he hasn't played an NHL game in a long, long time. He played just nine games with the New York Islanders last season, scoring one assist. The season prior he managed 30 games with Vegas Golden Knights during their inaugural NHL campaign, scoring two goals and 14 points.
