While he may not be a household name outside of Ottawa, there will be many who closely follow the National Hockey League who view this as a bargain for the Ottawa Senators.
The Senators announced on Wednesday that they had committed to a new contract with 26 year old center Mike Hoffman, and while the organization did not initially make the details on the deal public, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported that it is a four year contract, one that will pay Hoffman $3.8 million next season followed by three seasons at $5.65 million.
Hoffman is coming off two seasons where he came up just short of the 30 goal mark, and averaged 53.5 points over that stretch. While it's a big money commitment for an organization notorious for not wanting to spend money, there's little doubt that this was a good deal.
