Your call: Is Matthews better than McDavid?

TSN's analyst Craig Button made a very blunt declaration this morning on TSN Radio 1050: "Auston Matthews, right now, at this point of the season - is playing better than Connor McDavid." It's early, but it's been pretty clear. Button also believes that Matthews should get paid higher than the Oilers' superstar.

As of today, the Toronto Maple Leafs have been dominant, coming out of the gate with a 4-1-0 record through 5 games - scoring a league high 26 goals. Meanwhile, Edmonton is 1-3-0 with only 8 goals.

McDavid has 3 goals and 2 assists for 5 points to Matthews' 8 points (in one more game played). Early point totals don't define this argument - we can also look at McDavid's 100-point season last year to Matthews' 69.

Most people will not debate this: McDavid is in the conversation for best player in the NHL, maybe even better than Sidney Crosby. But there is a case to be made that Matthews is just as good.
