The NHL rumour mill has been spinning out of control lately with daily reports concerning the future of defenceman Ian Cole and the Pittsburgh Penguins. Multiple reports have Cole headed to either the Toronto Maple Leafs, Vegas Golden Knights or Colorado Avalanche. But, would he be a fit with the Edmonton Oilers?

The 28-year-old Cole has played in just 20 games for the Pens this season, but was a standout defender in the team’s last Stanley Cup championship. The defensive stalwart is a former first round pick (2007, 18th overall) and has developed into one of the league’s premier shot blocking defencemen.

The speculation is that Pens GM Jim Rutherford is seeking a quality center back in return for Cole, would Oilers pivot Mark Letestu be a good fit? Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has been on the trade block all season, but there’s absolutely NO WAY the Pens get him in return for just Cole.

So, assuming the Oilers can swing a deal centered around Letestu and throw in a pick or two, would you like to see GM Pete Chiarelli take a run at Cole?
