Every crazy moment from the awesome Battle of Alberta last night!

What a wild night.

Fans who were hoping for a wild night on Saturday were not the least bit disappointed after another classic match up in the Battle of Alberta.

Although the Edmonton Oilers fan base will almost assuredly leave feeling disappointed after their beloved team lost to arguably the organizations most bitter rivals, the Calgary Flames, there was plenty of action to cheer for on both sides of the ice last night. In fact it was the Oilers who jumped out to an early 2 - 0 lead but after giving up those two initial goals Flames goaltender David Rittich, who is currently making a strong case to become the Flames starting goaltender, shut down the Oilers and allowed his team to rattle off 4 unanswered goals on their way to a huge win.

The best parts of the action however will not be showing up on the score sheet as it came from the level of physical intensity that was on the ice between these two teams. Things got ugly very early on when Edmonton Oilers star forward Leon Draisaitl dropped notorious Calgary Flames agitator Matthew Tkachuk right on the back of his head with a nasty looking slew foot. Tkachuk would leave the game after the incident, although he did return later, and that seemed to be the launching point for the nastiness that we would see on both sides during the remainder of the game.

Everyone seemed to be willing to get involved after that point and we saw a surprising willingness from Calgary Flames forward Sam Bennett to fight, especially against a very tough opponent in Edmonton Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse. The two men traded some heavy shots and frankly I would have liked to have seen more of their exchange but the National Hockey League officials on the ice were pretty quick to put a stop to things, at leats in my estimation.

Even star players like Connor McDavid and Mark Giordano were not immune to getting rough up in this one with the Flames clearly trying to get under McDavid's skin and with Oilers bruiser Milan Lucic completely flattening Giordano with a monster hit early in the second period. It was a crazy night and if you missed at of the action you can check it all out in the video below.
