Vegas dominates the early 1st period and then.... McDavid.

That's just not fair.

It is moments like this that make you realize how much better the Edmonton Oilers should be when they have a player of this caliber to build their team around.

On Saturday night the Las Vegas Golden Knights were in Edmonton to face off against the Oilers at Rogers Place and early on it looked like it was going to be an ugly night for the Oilers. The Golden Knights did not put up any points on the board but it was all Vegas in the early going of the game's 1st period with only goaltender Mikko Koskinen really keeping the Oilers competitive to start the game. The heroics from Koskinen who is currently still batting 1.000 proved to be well worth the effort however as his offense would later reward him with the lead.

It was not some great display of teamwork or team effort that got the Oilers on the board on Saturday night however, instead it was the raw individual talent of superstar forward Connor McDavid that once again proved to be the difference maker. McDavid dazzled the home crowd in Edmonton when he picked up a puck at center, one that had either been dumped or more likely well placed by teammate Leon Draisaitl, and marched it all the way down into the Golden Knights zone.

McDavid should have never gotten possession of the puck with 2 defenders on him but he did, and he should not have had the speed to blow past the one remaining defender to stop him but he did, and he should not have had an angle with which to beat goaltender Marc Andre Fleury but he created one to add yet another outstanding goal to his already jam packed highlight reel.

It is the kind of play that leaves you with your jaw hanging on the floor and the kind of play that really shows how unfair the game of hockey can be when you have a talent the level of McDavid on the ice. A talent that can break a game wide open at any given moment and one that even if you attempt to defend can get the better of you in the end.

Wow.
