On the brink of elimination, Edmonton Oilers’ Connor McDavid expressed his frustration over his team’s defensive struggles after suffering a 5-4 overtime loss to the Los Angeles Kings in Game 5 on Tuesday night.

“We scored four tonight. That needs to be enough in a playoff game,” McDavid said. “Obviously it’s not. We’ve got to keep the puck out of our net.”

The Oilers were outshot 43-28 last night as it took a while for Edmonton to get going, being outshot 16-5 in the opening period. The Oilers battled back from 3-1 and 4-2 deficits in the third period to tie the game at 4-4 . The two superstars McDavid and Leon Draisaitl took matters in their hands. The captain got his team without one as he scored on the power-play and Draisaitl scored a short-handed goal, with a tally with an extra man moments later.

With the game tied, it headed to overtime where Kempe scored 1:12 into the extra period.

It’s disappointing,” McDavid added. “Obviously, you never like to lose, but they give you seven games for a reason, and we need to go get one on the road and bring it back to Edmonton.”

This is do or die for the Oilers in Game 6, which takes place Thursday night in Los Angeles. To make things worse for the Oilers, the NHL Safety Department announced that defenseman Darnell Nurse will have a hearing today for Head-butting Los Angeles’ Phillip Danault.

While McDavid sent out this blunt message to his teammates, most importantly his defensemen, Nurse might not be able to show his captain that he’s heard him seeing that he could be suspended for Game 6 or more…
