NHL insider reveals details of Sidney Crosby's “concussion.”

The latest on the Penguins captain.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are rapidly approaching their most important game of the season, with Game 7 of their opening round Stanley Cup playoff series against the New York Rangers scheduled for later tonight.

One of the big storylines coming into the day was whether or not Penguins captain Sidney Crosby would be eligible to play in Game 7 after rumors of a concussion have floated about over the course of the last few days. Crosby was of course notably held out of Game 6, but on Sunday National Hockey League insider Frank Seravalli shared some additional details on the health of the Penguins superstar forward.

According to Seravalli's sources there was in fact never a concussion of any kind here, which would explain why news broke earlier today suggesting that Crosby will in fact be suiting up for Game 7. So where did the rumors come from? According to the NHL insider there was some concern regarding a concussion after Crosby complained of a headache after Game 5, something that set off red flags for the Penguins.

Thankfully though the Penguins put Crosby through a battery of tests and it would appear as though those tests all came back negative as far as a potential concussion was concerned. Additionally Seravalli reports that since the headache there have been no other indicators that would raise concerns of a concussion, with Crosby believed to be entirely symptom free at this point.

That is of course great news for the Penguins who were no doubt holding out hope that Crosby would be in the lineup tonight to face the Rangers.

It is important to note that at the time of this writing Crosby is still officially being considered a "game time decision" by head coach Mike Sullivan, alongside goaltender Tristan Jarry and fellow Penguins forward Rickard Rakell, so it is still possible that the Penguins keep Crosby out of Game 7 with a last minute change. That being said I believe that it would take a small catastrophe to keep either Jarry or Crosby out of the Penguins' lineup for Game 7 tonight.
